About Massage

Massage is one of the oldest healing art forms, dating back thousands of years and practiced in almost every known culture. The ancient Chinese, Hindus, Persians, and Egyptians all applied different forms of bodywork for many common ailments. Today, the benefits of massage are varied and far-reaching. An integrated part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven to be beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more. Massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.

What to Expect

Before we begin your massage, we’ll discuss what your goals are for the session. Depending on your specific needs and requests, I will either perform a customized full body massage for general relaxation and stress reduction or focus on the specific parts of your body that you have requested to relieve pain and improve function and mobility. An intelligent mix of these two strategies is an option as well. Once we have a plan established for your session, I will leave the room, giving you privacy to undress to your comfort level. Most people choose to undress down to underwear or nude, but you may keep on as many items of clothing you need to feel fully comfortable. In fact, some massages, like thai massage and shiatsu require no undressing at all. Once undressed, you will climb between the massage sheets where you will remain modestly draped throughout your session. I will only uncover the part of your body I am working with in the moment and your privacy will always be respected. Once the massage is over, I will again step out of the room, giving you privacy to get dressed. Though appointments are booked in hourly increments, you should plan on being at the office 10 – 20 minutes extra for intake, dressing, drinking some water after your session, etc.
